Custom Embroidered vs. Printed Shirts

Advertising comes in many forms, including wearable items such as shirts. In fact, T-shirts bearing the logo, name, or any other design associated with a brand or company can be an effective form of advertising as they are visible everywhere their wearers go. T-shirt advertising is also highly cost-effective, especially when done in bulk. Two of the most popular methods for incorporating logos or advertising designs on T-shirts are screen printing and embroidery, and each has its own pros and cons.
Generally, screen printing costs less than embroidery; however, the complexity and size of a design factor into the costs. Screen printing costs are based on the number of colors needed for the design, while embroidery costs are determined by the stitch counts. Hence, larger designs may cost less when screen printed, while smaller ones may be cheaper when embroidered. Both processes, however, become more cost-effective as the volume of order goes higher.

Design-wise, screen printing offers more flexibility as it can better recreate intricate details with a lot of colors. However, embroidered designs look more professional and are thus used in clothing that are catered to a higher-end market, such as golf shirts, corporate sweaters or jvests, and sports jackets. Also, embroidered designs last longer than printed ones, contributing further to their “higher-end” appeal.
